In football recruiting, the name of the game for coaches is strike early and see what you can get. That is exactly what Urban Meyer has been doing, but Michigan coach Brady Hoke is not taking a back seat to Meyer.

Last Thursday, the Ohio State football recruiting class for 2013 was bolstered once again as defensive back Eli Woodard out of Voorhees, N.J., rated as the 28th-best prospect in the nation by Rivals.com, gave his pledge to the Buckeyes via Twitter.

This gives the Buckeyes four commitments, all in the top 130 players in the nation. Meyer is clearly still busy on the recruiting trail, but Hoke is building a respectable class of his own.

After the Buckeyes picked up Woodard, they leapfrogged the Wolverines, who as of last Thursday had just three commitments, including Shane Morris, a quarterback out of De La Salle High School in Warren, Mich., rated by Rivals as the No. 16 prospect in his class on the Rivals 100 list. Still, Michigan’s class had some room to grow. And boy, did it ever this past weekend.

With No. 8 OSU men’s basketball going to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 11 Wolverines in a prime-time matchup Saturday night, Hoke decided to host Michigan’s annual “Junior Day” as well. A whole host of prospects that U of M is targeting for next year’s class came out to participate in the weekend camp and meet with coaches and players. They also were fortunate enough to be able to attend the big basketball game, in which the Wolverines upset OSU in a nail-biter.

And the excitement, for Michigan fans of course, definitely carried over to the young recruits as an astounding eight prospects committed to Hoke’s class in a matter of two days. Offensive tackles David Dawson, Chris Fox, Kyle Bosch and Logan Tulley-Tillman all gave their pledges and will give Michigan depth on the offensive line for years to come. Also committing were running back Wyatt Shallman, defensive end Taco Charlton, tight end Jake Butt and cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

This load of commitments gives Michigan a humongous boost to the start of their class, as all eight are rated in the top 200 prospects overall by Rivals, along with Morris and safety Dymonte Thomas, giving Michigan 10 of the top 200 players in the country.

This development clearly is a stinging blow to Meyer and the Buckeyes, as Charlton and Butt, out of Pickerington, Ohio, were also considering the Buckeyes, but were able to be persuaded into leaving their home state. While the Buckeyes got off to a hot start, this just shows that Hoke will not be overwhelmed by the new guy in town, and is poised to hold his own and scrap and fight with Meyer for the top prospects in the Midwest.

The next move will be Meyer’s though, as the Buckeyes still have the vast majority of their top targets on the board, even after the loss of the Pickerington pair. It will be crucial for Meyer to try and hold down Ohio and secure as many pledges from Ohio as he can. But with connections in the southeast after his time in Florida, expect Meyer to pursue top talent from around the nation, not just the hometown kids.

After the huge weekend for Michigan, expect Meyer, known as a relentless recruiter, to bounce back and get right back to work. He is not a big fan of being one-upped by anyone (see two national championships), let alone a Michigan man.

Just as the name of the game in recruiting for coaches is fast starts, the name of the game for fans is waiting. And that’s just what we’ll have to do.

	In Urban we trust.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 18 points, Anthony Davis added 13 points and 11 rebounds and No. 1 Kentucky rallied to beat Mississippi State 73-64 Tuesday night.

The Wildcats (27-1, 13-0 Southeastern Conference) trailed 41-28 at halftime, but slowly climbed back to take their first lead at 63-62 with 4:11 remaining on a layup by Kidd-Gilchrist. They never trailed again, winning their 19th straight game.

Kansas State 78, No. 3 Missouri 68: At Columbia, Mo., Rodney McGruder scored 24 points and Kansas State upset No. 3 Missouri on Tuesday night, the Wildcats’ second win this season over the Tigers.

No. 7 North Carolina 86, N.C. State 74: At Raleigh, N.C., Kendall Marshall had a career-high 22 points and 13 assists to help No. 7 North Carolina beat North Carolina State 86-74 on Tuesday night.

No. 8 Ohio State 83, Illinois 67: At Columbus, Ohio, Deshaun Thomas scored 19 points and No. 8 Ohio State regained its shooting touch, rolling over Illinois on Tuesday night to remain in the thick of the Big Ten race.

Ohio State shot 65 percent from the field.

Seton Hall 73, No. 9 Georgetown 55: At Newark, N.J., Jordan Theodore scored a career-high 29 points to lead Seton Hall to the signature win it needed for its NCAA Tournament resume, a victory over No. 9 Georgetown on Tuesday night.

No. 11 Michigan 67, Northwestern 55: At Evanston, Ill., Trey Burke, Zack Novak and Stu Douglass hit 3-pointers to start overtime Tuesday night and No. 11 Michigan beat Northwestern for its fourth straight victory.

No. 12 Florida 63, Auburn 47: At Gainesville, Fla., No. 12 Florida used a hot-shooting night and a huge, second-half run to overcome 18 turnovers and beat Auburn on Tuesday night. But the victory may have been costly for the Gators (22-6, 10-3 Southeastern Conference). Will Yeguete, one of the team’s best rebounders and the heart and soul of coach Billy Donovan’s full-court press, broke his left foot midway through the second half against Auburn (14-13, 4-9).

Area

NSU: The final quarter of the 16-game Southland Conference basketball race begins at home Wednesday night for the Northwestern State Demons, with senior center William Mosley poised to match Alonzo Mourning and move into fifth in NCAA history in career blocked shots with a good night as NSU plays host to Sam Houston State. Tipoff is 7 p.m. in Prather Coliseum as the Demons (15-12 overall, 7-5 in the Southland) hope to maintain the momentum generated by an impressive 100-86 win at home Saturday over 17-12 Campbell in the Sears BracketBusters.

Writer Joyce Carol Oates, Princeton University’s Roger S. Berlind ’52 professor of the humanities and professor of creative writing in the Lewis Center for the Arts, has been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the state and beyond. Ms. Oates is among 11 inductees recently announced by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Ms. Oates joined the Princeton faculty in 1978 and is the author of a number of award-winning books of fiction including novels and short story collections, as well as essay collections, in the course of a writing career that has spanned five decades. She began writing novels at 14, after her grandmother gave her a typewriter for her birthday. At 19, she won the Mademoiselle magazine fiction contest.

Much of her fiction has been set in upstate rural New York and has explored family relationships, many of them plagued by violence, poverty, and addiction. Some of her most acclaimed novels are We Were The Mulvaneys (1996), a portrait of a family’s fall from grace; Blonde (2000), which portrays the life of Marilyn Monroe; The Falls (2004), a haunting story about Niagara Falls; and The Gravedigger’s Daughter (2007) which is based on the life of Oates’ grandmother.

In addition to her fiction, Ms. Oates is known for her literary criticism and essays, which have examined such diverse themes as boxing, serial killers, poetry, and art. Her many literary awards include the National Book Award, the PEN/Malamud Award honoring excellence in the art of the short story, the O. Henry Prize for continued achievement in the short story, and the Kenyon Review Award for Literary Achievement. In 2010 Ms. Oates was awarded The National Humanities Medal.

The New Jersey Hall of Fame was created to “honor citizens who have made invaluable contributions to society and the world beyond.” The Hall of Fame’s mission is to encourage children to strive for excellence by presenting significant and powerful role models as a source of learning, inspiration, and hope for young people. In addition to its annual award designations, the organization holds an essay contest for school children.

“I am deeply honored to join the impressive list of inductees for 2012,” noted Ms. Oates upon learning of the designation. “I am so pleased to see artists, and in particular writers, recognized by the Hall of Fame for the important contributions they make to our state and to society.”

LEWIS CENTER — Lancaster never could recover from a poor start.

The Golden Gales fell behind early and lost 54-31 to Hilliard Bradley in a Division I second-round game Tuesday at Olentangy Orange.

“Bradley shot lights out to start, and we didn’t,” Lancaster coach Sarah Chevalier said. “We missed our first four or five shots, which is frustrating. I think sometimes the kids feel that frustration, but they gotta keep going, gotta keep shooting.”

The Gales (10-11) shot more than 20 3-pointers for the game and were 3-of-17 from beyond the arc in the second half.

The shot selection was far from what Chevalier expected and different from what made Lancaster successful this season.

Senior Kellie Arter had 10 points to lead the Gales in the final game of her career, as she was one of Lancaster’s four seniors. The Gales had trouble stopping the Jaguars in the post in the second half, as Jasmine Junkins and Ashley Hummel combined for 12 of Bradley’s 24 points after halftime.

The duo took advantage of a significant size advantage against Lancaster. The Gales also started trapping guard Brooke Espenschied, who scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first half.

Despite the loss, Lancaster finished with 10 wins for the first time in Chevalier’s three years. The team has improved every year, and Chevalier hopes that will continue.

“Spring and summer is gonna be huge for us,” Chevalier said. “Who’s going to be there? Who’s going to step up for us? A lot of it is gonna rely on our young kids.”

(PRWEB) February 22, 2012

Meru University, the educational arm of The Hearts Center community is offering a free online course, “The 144 Virtues: Embodying the Virtues to Transform Ourselves and the World in 2012 and Beyond.” It consists of 12 one-hour classes spaced over 12 months that will examine in detail the 12 major God-qualities and their associated 12 virtues:

Class 1: Power—Precipitating God’s Divine Plan

Class 2: Love—Energy of Forgiveness and Transmutation

Class 3: Mastery of the Emotional Plane

Class 4: Control of the Flow of Life

Class 5: Obedience to the Inner Blueprint

Class 6: Wisdom—Illumination of Our Oneness in God

Class 7: Harmony—Mastering the Flow in the Four Lower Bodies

Class 8: Gratitude—Affirming the Gifts and Graces of the Spirit

Class 9: Justice—Equal God-potential in Us All

Class 10: Reality—The Real Self as God-Beingness

Class 11: Vision—The Inner Vision and Creative Energies

Class 12: Victory—The Fulfillment of Being God-Free

The Instructors are David Lewis, spiritual director of the Hearts Center and messenger for the ascended masters, and Dr. Claire Brown. Dr. Brown is a policy analyst, researcher and program evaluator based in Tucson, Arizona. She conducts studies for national, state, local and nonprofit agencies on a range of topics in the fields of education and health. She received a doctoral degree from Harvard University in international education policy and research methods, and worked in numerous countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. One of the focuses of her work is the importance of education and knowledge for an informed self-governed citizenry. Her spiritual practice evolved from the study and application of Hindu and Buddhist teachings and meditation practices in the late 1970s to the I AM teachings in 2006. She joined the Hearts Center in 2011, and is a member of the Meru University staff.

This course will assist participants in identifying and exploring the 144 virtues and how they relate to the 12 God-qualities on the cosmic clock. Instructors will also explain how the virtues relate to the seven chakras or energy centers and provide participants with opportunities to talk about or type in what the virtues mean to them personally—the ways they experience them, understand them, envision them and live them. They will be invited to share their insights, knowledge, experience and examples of each God-quality and the 12 virtues associated with each one through a sharing, story, reading, poem, prayer, meditation, artwork, song, music, image, etc. They will learn how experiencing the virtues assists them on the spiritual path as initiates.

David Lewis said, concerning this course, “Claire Brown has prepared magnificently for this time of communion and sharing, interaction and blessing, one hour per month of time, for us to, in a very conscious way, bring ourselves to the altar of God to bask in the Presence and the light of the Virtues as we consider these 144 rays of light, which are indicative of the very Godhead, are expressive of the beingness of the One, the Creator, our Source… We will meditate, we will go within and we will discern with the Holy Spirit and our Divine Presence, our Solar Self, what these virtues are.”

During Class One on January 25th, there was a brief sharing time in which students named many virtues that they associate with true leadership as an exemplification of God-power. In all, 25 virtues were named. Students are able to refine this list by posting their thoughts on the Hearts Center Forum under the topic “God-power.” They can vote for their discerned virtues and others that represent the frequencies of light manifesting through God-power.

Anyone can join the next online webinar on February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. MST and explore the God-quality of love and its virtues of compassion, kindness, mercy, beauty, passion, etc. They can choose their favorite virtues from the study guide on the course page or make their own list. People should come with choices and be prepared to share and explain them. They can also share how they practice these virtues, how they manifest them in their lives, how they embody and hold the patterns of these frequencies of God’s consciousness. They can post their thoughts on the Forum under the topic “God-love”.

The Hearts Center Community connects many heartfriends worldwide whose mission is to realize personal enlightenment and share the ascended masters’ love-wisdom teachings throughout the Earth. The community believes that each soul has a personal connection with her Higher Self. With the ascended masters as examples of selfless living, each individual may advance in personal discipleship toward the goal of the ascension through study, devotion and service to life.

The Watertown High girls indoor track team proved they are one of the better Division 4 teams in the state when they came up with an eighth place overall finish at Saturday’s Class D State meet held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

“To be honest I was hoping for a higher finish,” said Watertown girls head coach David Mastro, who saw his squad combine for a total of 24 points. “But as a team I still thought we put in a good effort.”

The highlight of the day came in the 4 x 200 relay when the foursome of Talia Flores, Lauren Basile, Meagan Kelly, and Christelle Madou won the event in a new school record time of 1:47.69.

“Obviously that’s a great performance,” Mastro said. “Talia really got us going running a great leg. We are now seeded fifth in this week’s All-States which is really quite an accomplishment.”

Other points came from Flores in both the 300 (4th place, 42.39) and the long jump (7th, 16′ 3 1/2″), Basile in the dash (6th overall, only 4/100 of a second separated the second and sixth place winners), and Kelly in the hurdles (5th (9:05).

Others who didn’t point but performed very well were Madou in the dash (16th, 7.83), Calista Diehl in the mile (25th, 5:48.68, her second fastest race of season), the 4 x 400 relay team of Amanda Santos, Krysta Brugger, Keegan Duguay, and Sahar Khan (4:47.73) and the 4 x 800 relay squad of Diehl, Molly Day, Rebecca Hellman, and Kiran Khan.

“The 4 x 8 team was actually seeded last and just missed scoring with an eleventh place finish, ” Mastro said of the foursome that ran a very impressive time of 10:43.35. “They set a school record with their race and really did an excellent job. As a matter of fact this was the first time that we have ever had all three relay teams qualify for states.”

Norwell won the Class D event with 52 points.

The Lady Raiders will now send some of its girls to this Sunday’s All-State meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. Besides the 4 x 200 relay team earning a trip, Flores qualified in the 300, Basile qualified in the dash, and Kelly did the same in the hurdles.

ESCONDIDO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Realty Income Corporation (Realty Income), The Monthly Dividend Company®,
(NYSE: O), today announced that its Board of Directors has elected
Michael D. McKee as its new Non-Executive Chairman, effective February
21, 2012. Donald R. Cameron, the Company’s current Chairman, has
announced he will retire from the Board of Directors, effective at the
Board’s annual meeting in May 2012.

Michael D. McKee currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the
US business of Bentall Kennedy, L.P., a real estate investment advisor
with $27 billion of assets under management. Prior to joining Bentall
Kennedy in 2011, Mr. McKee was Vice Chairman of the Board at The Irvine
Company, from 1999 to 2008, and also served as Chief Executive Officer,
Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer from 2001 to 2008.
Prior to joining The Irvine Company in 1994, he was a partner at the law
firm of Latham Watkins.

Commenting on Mr. McKee’s election as Board Chairman, Tom A. Lewis, Vice
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “As a founding Board
Member with 17 years of experience with us, Mike has been a leader and
steady voice during our tenure as a public company. During his Board
tenure, he has chaired our Governance and Compensation Committees, and
his corporate, real estate and legal background provide him with the
experience and skills to fill this important new role as Chairman. I
look forward to working closely with Mike.”

The Company also announced that A. Larry Chapman has joined Realty
Income’s Board of Directors effective February 21, 2012. Mr. Chapman is
the former Head of Commercial Real Estate for Wells Fargo. In June 2011,
tenure, he served as President of Wells Fargo Realty Advisors and as
head of Wells Fargo Real Estate Group. He was also a member of the Wells
Fargo Management Committee. Mr. Chapman received his bachelor of
business administration degree in finance from Texas Tech University.
Throughout his career, he has been an active participant in corporate
and nonprofit boards and was a former board member of the Fisher Center
for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California,
Berkeley. Other affiliations include; governor, council member, and past
trustee of the Urban Land Institute; former member of the National
Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts; and member and past
trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Commenting on Mr. Chapman’s election to the Board of Directors, Tom A.
Lewis stated, “We are pleased that Larry has joined our Board as he
brings a wealth of real estate experience to our group, given his long
and distinguished career at Wells Fargo. We are looking forward to the
insight and expertise he will bring to our efforts to continue to grow
the size of our real estate portfolio and the revenue that supports the
payment of monthly dividends to our shareholders.”

Commenting also on Donald Cameron’s retirement from the Board, Tom A.
Lewis said, “We are grateful for the 17 years of service and leadership
that Donald has provided to our Company and shareholders. His financial
and investment expertise, dedication to shareholders and the Company’s
mission, as well as his supportive leadership style and tremendous wit
will be missed by all members of the Board and those who had the

NASHPORT — 9:15 P.M. UPDATE — A 20-year-old Zanesville woman is dead, and a man seriously injured after their motorcycle passed several vehicles on Ohio 60 before colliding with a truck near the Muskingum County Speedway Monday afternoon, state troopers and witnesses said.

Luka Smith, 20, of Mutton Ridge Road, and Zachary Tigner, 20, of Coopermill Road, were thrown from the Suzuki motorcycle. Smith died from her injuries, and Tigner was taken to the Ohio State University Medical Center with serious injuries, Ohio Highway Patrol trooper Jeff Fowler said.

Neither Smith nor Tigner were wearing helmets, Fowler said.

Tigner was listed in stable condition Monday evening, a hospital nurse said. No information about the extent of his injuries was available.

Tigner and Smith, who were headed north on Ohio 60, were attempting to pass a Nissan truck driven by Mark Neal, 43, of Coburn Drive, when the crash occurred.
Neal and two young passengers were not injured.

Neal told troopers he was preparing to turn around in a private drive at the southend of the speedway property. He had his turn signal on, but Tigner still attempted to pass him in the left (southbound) lane, Fowler said.

“As soon as he (Neal) was making the turn, he was struck,” Fowler said. “From what the other witnesses said, it’s possible multiple vehicles were passed by the motorcycle.”
Neal declined to comment.

Debris from the motorcycle was strewn about the road and Speedway property. The truck, which was pulling a trailer with two all-terrrain vehicles, suffered damage to its front grill and bumper, most noticeably on the front left corner where the collision occurred.

Falls Township Fire Chief J.D. Johnson said the department was toned out at 12:55 p.m. to 7985 Frazeysburg Road. Rescue squad members found two patients, Smith and Tigner, in the yard. It then was determined the woman was dead, and rescuers called for MedFlight to attend to the male victim.

Fowler said the patrol was toned out at 1:07 p.m.

Jeff Lewis, of Nashport, said he and a friend heard the fire trucks on Ohio 60 and drove up the road to investigate, coming upon the crash scene.

“We knew it had to be close. The motorcycle was smashed up. The girl is on the ground and the guy is in the helicopter,” Lewis said as state troopers arrived.

Fowler said Tigner was driving with a suspended license and the license plate tag on the motorcycle was expired. It’s possible Tigner could be charged, but that will be up to the prosecutor’s office after the crash investigation report is filed, he said.

Homas is a West Point graduate whose career has included deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, where he served as command surgeon. His military honors include two Bronze Stars, The Seattle Times reported (http://is.gd/U0S3oI).

“I remain optimistic that the truth will come out with these investigations,” Homas said. “I don’t feel that I or my team have done anything wrong.”

Homas was appointed commander at Madigan in March 2011. The center is on Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma and serves thousands of soldiers who have been to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The focus of the Army Medical Command investigation is a Madigan forensic psychiatric team that has the lead role in screening soldiers being considered for medical retirement due to PTSD, a condition that results from experiencing or seeing a traumatic event, such as a battlefield casualty.

Symptoms can include recurrent nightmares, flashbacks, irritability and feeling distant from other people. Soldiers diagnosed with PTSD gain at least a 50 percent rating of disability, and qualify for pensions, family health insurance and other financial benefits.

In 2011, an ombudsman investigated complaints from soldiers who said the forensic psychiatric team had reversed earlier diagnoses of PTSD and tagged some of them as possible malingerers.

The ombudsman also wrote a memo about a lecture in which a member of the forensic psychiatric team talked about the need to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and not rubber stamp PTSD diagnoses that could result in a soldier earning $1.5 million in benefits over a lifetime.

The memo also drew the attention of lawmakers.

“This is an investigation that has only just begun,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who chairs the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs.

“The most important thing is that these service members and their families are provided with answers on why cost was a factor in the treatment they sought for the invisible wounds of war, and that the Army takes the right steps to fix it,” Murray told The News Tribune, ((http://is.gd/VQpF4z).

The ombudsman investigation resulted in more than a dozen soldiers getting a chance for a second PTSD screening by doctors from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, D.C.

Fourteen of those soldiers will have the results of their Walter Reed reviews detailed in individual meetings at Madigan with Col. Rebecca Porter, chief of behavioral health, Office of the U.S. Army Surgeon General.

This was not what the Panthers, winless in the Big East this season, needed to hear. Not only would it play UConn Tuesday, it would play an annoyed, perhaps self-loathing powerhouse intent on spiritual and tactical cleansing. And they would do it with no juniors or seniors.

Poor Pittsburgh. Oh yes, poor Pittsburgh.

The Panthers did what they could to hold the Huskies back, which really wasn’t much after the first three minutes. Highly motivated to tighten its loose bolts, UConn roared to an 86-37 victory before a sparse crowd of 2,095 at the Petersen Athletic Center.

In winning, the Huskies ended to 683 their streak of games without consecutive losses, the last of their great statistical milestones still left to count.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led the Huskies with 23 points, shooting 9-of-12 and making three three-pointers in 23 minutes.

Tiffany Hayes added 13 points in 21 minutes with five steals. Bria Hartley had 10 points and five assists. Kelly Faris added eight points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in 28 minutes. And Caroline Doty had nine rebounds.

“The things that we work on, we never stop working on,” Geno Auriemma said. “We want to play good defense, get the ball moving on offense and get everyone involved. And we want to take care of the ball. Nothing has changed.”

Each of UConn’s 11 players scored at least two points. Michala Johnson scored a season-high eight points (4-of-4) in seven minutes with three rebounds.

Brianna Kiesel led the Panthers (8-19, 0-14) with 15 points. Ashlee Anderson added 10.

The Huskies (25-3, 12-2) move on to Marquette Saturday before completing the Big East regular season Monday at the XL Center against Notre Dame. Where UConn will finish in the standings is still up in the air.

“I really don’t concern myself with that,” Auriemma said. “At the end of the season, the Big East lines up the teams and we play who we play.”

UConn was leading 48-10 at the half; an exorcism, as promised. The Panthers were tied 2-2 in the opening minutes and then all of a sudden they went 11:28 without another field goal and it was 31-8.

“I am happy with the way we responded,” Faris said. “But at the same time, we all know we made progress, but we’re not where we want to be, we’re not where Coach wants us to be. We still have a way to go, but I’m happy we responded.

“It’s not OK to be this way at this point of the season, but it’s the position we put ourselves in. Now we need to dig ourselves out.”

The Huskies applied pressure to all of Pittsburgh’s shortcomings, holding a poor shooting team to 12-of-50 from the field (24 percent) and 1-of-14 from three. UConn attacked the basket, shooting 35-of-57 (61.4 percent), dominated the boards (38-24) and forced 21 turnovers, which they turned into 24 points.

“We definitely tried to put an emphasis to play hard, make hard cuts, make every pass, and play sharp defense,” Mosqueda-Lewis said. “It’s late in the season and we’ve been working on these things since September.”

They got excellent production from their perimeter players, most of whom had been slumping coming into the game. And Stefanie Dolson, the sophomore center, had something of a rebound game with eight points, six rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes.

But still, Auriemma said, it could have been worse for Pittsburgh if he wanted it to be.

“It’s hard to tell exactly what we got out of the game,” Auriemma said. “I mean, we could have come out here and put 120 on them like Notre Dame did [a 120-44 win on Jan. 17 in South Bend]. We could have shot threes the whole game and tried to run the score up. But that’s not the point.

“The point is to work on your game. The point is to make sure you have players getting better and I think they are. It’s always what you see from a game. We ask ourselves all the time if things worked because we executed well or because the opponent didn’t have the talent to stop it. Either way is fine, as long as you are getting the stuff done because you are always looking down the road when you will need to do it.”

brings a wealth of real estate experience to our group, given his long
and distinguished career at Wells Fargo. We are looking forward to the
insight and expertise he will bring to our efforts to continue to grow
the size of our real estate portfolio and the revenue that supports the
payment of monthly dividends to our shareholders.”

Dr. Eric D. Lance, spokesman for the surgical group, said that the practice will continue to provide services at both Wake Forest Baptist Health — Lexington Medical Center and Thomasville Medical Center.

“Partnering with Wake Forest Baptist Health allows the practice to heighten the care that it has provided Davidson County residents for decades,” he said. “We are excited by the opportunities made possible through the affiliation which strengthens our mission to provide general surgical care to patients countywide.”

Formed more than 15 years ago in Thomasville, Davidson Surgical Associates is recognized as the largest surgery practice in Davidson County. Drs. Mark D. Smith, Brian C. Lewis and Lance opened a satellite practice on the campus of Lexington Medical Center nine months ago. Dr. Steven J. Muscoreil joined the staff earlier this month with another surgeon slated to come on board in May.

“Additional physicians enable the practice to provide 24/7 surgical coverage at both Davidson County hospitals,” Lance said, “a service that begins this month.”

All of the surgeons in the group are certified by the American Board of Surgery and are Fellows in the American College of Surgeons. Each will rotate through offices at 5 Medical Park in Lexington and at 1219 Lexington Ave. in Thomasville.

Donny Lambeth, president of Lexington Medical Center, said the surgeons with Davidson Surgical Associates are well-respected in the medical community.

“We are delighted that the practice chose to affiliate with Wake Forest Baptist Health and equally delighted that they expanded their practice to the Lexington Medical Center campus,” he said. “These surgeons have excellent outcomes and provide a high level of service that is focused on meeting the general surgical needs of all Davidson County residents.”

As general surgeons, they treat a variety of conditions including cancer, diverticulitis, gallbladder and hernia problems. They offer both traditional and minimally invasive surgical methods. At Lexington Medical Center, the group has teamed with Wake Forest Baptist Health plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pestana to provide immediate breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer patients.

Muscoreil joined the staff Feb. 6.

“We are blessed to welcome Dr. Muscoreil, his wife and children to the Davidson Surgical family,” Lance said. “He left a thriving practice in Lumberton to join us.”

Lance said that numerous physicians from the Lumberton area who worked directly with Muscoreil have approached him to express their respect for him as a person and surgeon.

“They tell us we are very lucky to have him join our group and expressed sadness at losing him,” he said.

Muscoreil completed his medical degree in 1992 at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. He completed his surgical residency at Summa Health System, Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio, where he trained in general, vascular, thoracic and laparoscopic surgery, endoscopy, stereotactic breast biopsy and sentinel node biopsy. He also holds a doctorate in podiatric medicine from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“We want to be known for the quality of modern surgical care we provide patients,” Lance said. “We are pleased to be affiliated with Wake Forest Baptist Health and look forward to meeting the surgical needs of patients in Thomasville and Lexington.”
